I have a broad range of experience working with people of different ages and needs, with a particular interest in elderly care and supporting individuals to maintain their dignity, independence and quality of life.

My senior care experience has included caring for elderly individuals and assisting with their daily routines and personal needs. My responsibilities have included:

- Assisting with personal hygiene and grooming, including bathing, dressing and general personal care.
- Providing support with daily routines while encouraging the individual to remain as independent as possible.
- Assisting individuals living with dementia, using patience, reassurance and a calm approach.
- Providing companionship and emotional support, including conversation, reading, activities and simply being present.
- Preparing and assisting with meals and ensuring that individuals have appropriate food and refreshments throughout the day.
- Assisting with household routines and keeping the individual's living environment clean, comfortable and safe.
- Supporting mobility and everyday activities within the person's abilities.
- Accompanying individuals to appointments, activities or outings where required.
- Monitoring general wellbeing and being attentive to changes in mood, behaviour or routine.
- Communicating appropriately with family members regarding the individual's needs, routines and wellbeing.
- Providing reassurance and companionship to individuals who may feel lonely, anxious or confused.
- Treating all personal information with discretion and maintaining confidentiality.

I understand that dementia care requires particular patience and understanding. I appreciate that memory loss and confusion can sometimes result in frustration, anxiety or changes in behaviour. I focus on remaining calm, reassuring and respectful rather than becoming frustrated, and I adapt my approach according to the individual's needs on that particular day.

My professional qualifications and training include:

* First Aid certification, valid until 2028.
* Qualified Beauty Therapist, qualified in 2002 through Tygerberg/Northlink, with a particular focus on massage therapy.
* Internationally qualified Dale Carnegie facilitator, with experience facilitating programmes from 2017–2019.
* Practical experience assisting with elderly care, dementia care, personal hygiene and daily living support.

My background in beauty therapy has also given me an understanding of the importance of personal presentation, dignity, relaxation and physical comfort. I am naturally attentive to small details and believe that helping someone feel comfortable and cared for is an important part of quality care.

My experience as a Dale Carnegie facilitator strengthened my communication, listening and interpersonal skills. I am comfortable communicating with individuals from different backgrounds and adapting my communication style to suit the person I am working with.

I am also an experienced childcare professional and have managed an aftercare environment for several years. This has required a high level of responsibility, organisation, patience, communication, problem-solving and safeguarding awareness. Although childcare and senior care are different fields, the experience has strengthened my ability to remain calm under pressure, manage routines, respond to individual needs and create a safe and caring environment.

I take my responsibilities seriously and understand that working as a caregiver means being someone a family can rely on. I am punctual, trustworthy, respectful and willing to become familiar with the individual's established routines and preferences.

I believe good care is about seeing the person, not simply the care needs. My aim is always to support the individual with kindness and respect, while encouraging independence wherever possible and ensuring they feel safe, valued and heard.
