Hi families! My name is Shaniquea, and I’m a warm, patient, responsible, and caring person with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a genuine love for working with children.

My experience with children started while I was still in high school, when I worked at a daycare. I also had the opportunity to support my younger sister as her shadow when she attended basic school. She is autistic, and being involved in her care taught me a lot about patience, understanding individual needs, communication, and creating a supportive environment for a child.

I also spent time assisting at my mother’s basic school, Blenheim Town Basic School, where I helped with the children and supported the everyday activities of the school. These experiences gave me an appreciation for how different every child can be and how important it is to meet children where they are.

I’ve also been involved in youth and educational programmes. I volunteered with the Lennox Lewis Foundation during one summer, where I helped with activities for children and young people. At university, I also spearheaded a reading initiative at a preparatory school, where I helped organize and support a literacy activity with primary-school students. I really enjoyed seeing the children become engaged with reading and learning.

My Psychology degree has further strengthened my understanding of child development, behaviour, communication, and interpersonal relationships. I’m naturally attentive and observant, and I understand that caring for children involves much more than simply keeping them occupied. It means creating a safe environment, listening to them, encouraging their development, setting appropriate boundaries, and making them feel valued and understood.

As an au pair, I would be happy to help with homework, reading, creative activities, playtime, routines, school-related activities and outings, while also helping with age-appropriate household responsibilities related to the children. I’m also excited about the opportunity to experience family life in another country, learn about a new culture, and share some of my own Jamaican culture with your family.

Most importantly, I would want to build a genuine relationship with your children and become someone they feel comfortable, safe, and happy around. I understand that welcoming an au pair into your home requires trust, so I would make it a priority to communicate openly with parents, respect your parenting style and routines, and treat your children with the same patience and care that I would want for my own family.
