I have always been the kind of person who naturally finds herself around children—not because I was trying to gain “childcare experience,” but because caring for them has genuinely become part of who I am.

Growing up, I helped care for my younger siblings, from a baby of six months to children of different ages. That meant the little everyday things: feeding them, bathing them, helping them get ready, keeping them company, playing with them, comforting them when they were upset, and simply being there. Being around children taught me that caring for a child is not only about keeping them safe. It is about making them feel safe with you.

I have also been a Sunday school teacher, and that experience taught me something I really value: every child has a different personality. Some children are immediately talkative and playful, while others need time before they feel comfortable. I have had the joy of spending time with children who were very shy and helping them slowly come out of their shells. Through patience, conversation, games, laughter, and simply giving them a safe person to be around, I watched them become more comfortable with me. Some began treating me like their big sister.

I have also volunteered with children who were experiencing mental-health difficulties. That experience made me even more aware of how important it is for a child to feel heard, accepted, and loved. Sometimes you don't need a perfect answer—you just need to sit with a child, listen, play with them, encourage them, and remind them that they matter. Those moments have stayed with me.

That is the kind of presence I would bring into your home. I would want your children to feel that they have someone they can laugh with, talk to, learn from, and feel completely comfortable around. Whether that means getting them ready for school, walking them to school, helping with homework, preparing meals, feeding or bathing younger children, playing outside, reading stories, or being there when they have had a difficult day, I would approach it with patience and genuine care.

I can also help with the everyday things that make a household run more smoothly. I am comfortable helping with children's laundry, tidying their spaces, preparing simple meals, and assisting with reasonable household tasks. I enjoy cooking, and I would love to share some of the food and traditions from Zambia with your family while also learning the meals your family enjoys. I would be excited to learn your language and, in return, teach your children little words and phrases from mine.

But beyond the practical things, I would love to bring a little piece of Zambia into your home—the stories, food, culture, music, games, and everyday things that make my home feel like home to me. And I would be just as excited to learn what makes your family special.

I understand that welcoming an au pair into your home means trusting someone with the people who matter most to you. I would never take that trust lightly. I would respect your family's routines, values, privacy, and parenting style, while bringing my own warmth, energy, patience, and willingness to learn.

I am not looking to simply be someone who stays in your home and completes a list of childcare duties. I would love to become someone your children genuinely look forward to seeing—the big sister who plays with them, listens to their stories, helps them when they need it, encourages them when something feels difficult, and makes ordinary days a little more fun.

I would bring responsibility when you need someone dependable, patience when a child needs extra understanding, energy when it is time to play, and a caring heart when they simply need someone beside them.
